The exceedingly blustery weather conditions did not dampen the spirits of the Friends on Saturday 9 May as they gathered at the theatre for their Spring Fair.

Spring Fair at the theatre

As a large number of volunteer helpers battled with the elements to keep their wares safe, members of the public and Friends alike dipped deeply into their pockets for wagers on instant and wine raffles and tombola stalls and to find an array of goodies to take home – ranging from silk scarves, candles, books and DVD/CDs  to numerous ‘out of the attic’ treasures!  Once again the cake and produce stall proved a popular attraction, as were refreshments – more delicious homemade cakes and scones – served in the warmth of the theatre bar, as visitors sought a respite from the cold outside!  Even the sound of the PA system was carried away on the wind!  Despite all this, spirits remained high, but proceedings were eventually curtailed half an hour early following the onset of some fairly heavy ‘spring’ showers.  This made the amount raised during the morning, in excess of £1100, even more impressive.

As predicted, the backstage tours of the theatre proved very popular with demand far outstripping supply. There were so many disappointed visitors that the Friends will be organising further such tours. If you are interested, please email enquiries@fodpt.org.uk and you will be contacted with details.
