The Friends were treated to a delightful afternoon of Christmas Customs down the ages vividly explained by Peter Pyemont and further enhanced by some graphic pictures and seasonal songs sung by the Melody Magpies accompanied on the piano by Paul Collins. All the laughter and singing were brought sharply into focus with a brief, completely silent film of the German and Allied troops meeting in no-mans land on Christmas Day in 1914 – a most moving interlude. To complete an unusual but excellent occasion, everyone  joined in the chorus of White Christmas, having first listened to poems by Spike Milligan and John Betjeman.
