29th April – Saw the first performance of the play “The Pitmen Painters”. The play by Lee Hall, is based on the true story of the “Ashington Group”, a small society of amateur artists, composed mainly of miners, located in Ashington, Northumberland. The group met regularly between 1934 and 1984 and their work became acclaimed in the art world.

A bar reception was hosted by the Friends following the opening night.
