What a difference a week makes.  There is no doubt that Chris Jordan dishes up a very varied menu for the audiences at the Devonshire Park Theatre and after the testing experience of Pinter, it was a relief for many to sit down and watch another light-hearted offering from Talking Scarlet. Not quite in the ‘murder’ season yet, but bodies abound!

You either love ’em or hate ‘em, but as Talking Scarlet’s Artistic Director, Patric Kearns, is at pains to point out in the programme there is no point in trying to follow the plot of a farce, or get exasperated at the exaggerated situations, you just need to go with the flow!  Whatever you do though – should you be contemplating a house-swap holiday – be very wary of who you are swapping with!

Ian Ogilvy with Lesley Raven (right) and Tricia SneathAs always it was such a pleasure to welcome the cast and company to the bar.  This was a particularly special first night as we were joined by writer/director, Ian Ogilvy.  Ian, so well known for his role as Simon Templar in the Return of the Saint, set a few female hearts a-flutter as he chatted with the Friends!

For most of the cast it was a return to the Devonshire Park stage and once again they gave so willingly of their time after their nerve-wracking first night of their extensive UK tour.  They had rehearsed in Eastbourne and David Callister was proudly sporting an Eastbourne suntan!  We also learned that although it was Davies Palmer’s first appearance on the Eastbourne stage, he was no stranger to the town as he regularly visited his grandparents who lived here when he was a child!

We wish them every success with the tour which takes them around the UK until the end of August.
