The Annual Quiz Night again attracted an excellent turn-out as 103 Friends gathered in the Congress Suite on Saturday 18 July.  After enjoying an early supper of variously filled jacket potatoes, the teams settled down to the serious business of competition and ten rounds of questions set by The Quizmasters, husband and wife team, Steve & Carol White.

An evening of competitive – and sometimes even family – rivalry and difficult decisions: when do you play your Joker and double the points for the round – not easy to decide when you have teams of six or eight individuals not necessarily conversant with each other’s strengths, nor is submitting the right answer always easy when you have a ‘committee’ making the decision!  Then there was the irritatingly frustrating bonus round of identifying those all too familiar advertising slogans – but can you remember exactly what they were trying to sell you?

In a very tightly fought contest, two teams faced a final tie-breaker question:  “In what year was The Mousetrap first performed in the West End”.  It was therefore befitting that the (nearest) correct answer was given by the team that included the person who had reviewed that same play for The Herald a month or so back when it came The Devonshire Park Theatre  – Kevin Anderson !

There was a buoyant mood throughout the evening, during which the raffle raised £131.45.  Clearly a thoroughly enjoyable time was had by all.
